I saw this place driving down Rowland st since their review was high . I knew I wanted to try but never got around to it So I finally stopped by it is Japanese owned so I knew it had to be good. The california rolls were huge and service was ok. The restaurant is small and cannot accommodate large groups and they are closed Sundays and Mondays. I'm actually giving 4.6 stars!

The uni is amazing!!! Worth the market place price. We came as a party of 4, and arrived at a very unassuming quiet strip mall. We were a bit concerned when we parked in the back. (Lots of parking andn street parking by the way). When we walked in, it seemed pleasant and the place was popping. We got a very small menu, but our eyes were bigger than our stomach and we ordered way more than we could finish. Chirashi bowl was delicious, the nigiri was soft, the cut rolls were not rolled too tight, but flavor was there. I wish the rolls were packed a little more tightly because some of the innards fell apart after picking it up and dipping it. The tempura was nicely fried. The combo I got was teriyaki chicken along with a dynamite scallop. I would prob pass on the scallop, as it was mostly zucchinis and onions. It came with salad, soup and Mac salad. Overall I would definitely come back to get the nigiri options and cut rolls.

Came by this small hole in the wall and was pleasantly surprised! Got salmon and yellow tail sashimi and it was fresh and nice cuts. Got the baked mussels and those were really good with nice mayo style topping baked on. Also ordered the yellowtail carpaccio and it was good also. Had a nice mix of ponzu sauce and white onions and jalepno if you opt for spicy. Their dynamite was good as well as it had more seafood than the typical ones at other places. Some people have complained about some things taking longer but it's a tiny place so it's kind of expected and what some others don't realize they also have a back patio.

It's always a treat to come here. Love this mom and pop place that always has fresh fish and the best service. Make sure to show them some love and stop by! You won't be disappointed.

My 20+ year love affair with Yashima continues! Every time I fly home to see family, we come here. We get the same things and it's always as good and fresh as the last time, if not better somehow. They always remember us, even where I went to college and where I'm living now even though I sometimes go years without seeing them. Just a truly special place and one I look forward to visiting whenever a SoCal trip is in my future. The sushi quality can not be beat.

Very authentic Japanese restaurant experience! We had a party of 8 so it was a bit of a wait but the service was fast and very friendly! Plenty of parking in the back. The wait took about 40 minutes but it is a small restaurant so if you had parties of 2-4, you will be seated pretty quickly. Luckily our waitress took our order before we sat down so by the time we actually didn't sit down, food came out quick. The food was really good. I loved my udon - very flavorful and the noodles were nice and chewy. The combos looked bomb too. Overall, loved this restaurant because of the friendliness. Prices weren't bad and the food was good!

Still think it's one of the best sushi shops in the area, but some of the dishes missed the mark this time. Can't always be perfect, so will keep trying. Service was really stand out on a very busy Friday night. Food wise, we loved everything except the salmon in the sashimi dish. Didn't seem as fresh as the other items. Nigiri combo, carpaccio, soup and salad were all really good though.
